Interestingly, the top ten cryptocurrencies have not undergone any significant changes over the past 24 hours, except for Ripple’s XRP, which has emerged as a dominant contender in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Even though Ripple has recorded a 20 percent gain over the past 24 hours and has overtaken Ethereum to become the second largest cryptocurrency in terms of market cap, it remains to be seen whether it can sustain its momentum and continue to record a consistent daily volume. But, several analysts like CryptoCoinsNews editor Joseph Young emphasized that it will be difficult for Ripple to maintain its valuation at around $36 billion for a long period of time.
“Ripple’s market cap is too high for what it does. It will be difficult for them to maintain their current valuation,” said Young.

First we need to understand what exactly a market cap means when it comes to cryptos, as this is a term that is often misunderstood. The term ‘market cap’ is used when referring to stocks or traditional shares, and has a slightly different meaning when referring to cryptocurrency. In stocks, it refers to the total value of all shares issued by a company at any given point in time. When it comes to cryptocurrencies, a market cap is simply calculated by multiplying the total number of coins issued by a particular cryptocurrency by its current price. Therefore, the market cap of any given crypto depends entirely on its current price.
